RIFLE, Colo. – A Rifle man is wanted on first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing his son-in-law in late March.

Rifle police obtained an arrest warrant on the murder charge for Michael Francis Montgomery, 45, on March 30.

He is accused of murdering Christopher Lee Gallegos, 28, just after 8 p.m. on March 29. Authorities found Gallegos, who was also a Rifle resident, dead in the 2600 block of Acacia Ave. with a gunshot wound to his head.

Montgomery is described as a white man, 5-foot-8 and 177 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has tattoos on both of his arms.

Police say he is known to frequent the Rifle and Parachute areas of Colorado. Montgomery is accused of shooting Gallegos with a semi-automatic handgun, and authorities in the past have warned that he may be armed and dangerous.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office have been assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information on Montgomery’s whereabouts is asked to call the Rifle Police Department at 970-665-6500.
