ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Federal agencies say they've raided an illegal marijuana growing operation in the White River National Forest in northwestern Colorado.
The Aspen Times reports law enforcement officials began eradication efforts on the pot patch discovered near Redstone Thursday. Officials say it's the third illegal marijuana grow they have discovered in national forests in the Aspen area in five years.
The recent raid was collaboration between Forest Service law enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Land Management.
Officials say one man was arrested after the raid.
A statement by the forest supervisor's office say officials found 2,700 plants on the 5-acre site.
According to price estimates by the Forest Service, about $6.5 million worth of marijuana was destroyed in the eradication.
