DENVER -- A picture of Erin Vandewiele is on the orange shirts that her family and friends are wearing around Denver. They traveled from Wisconsin to Colorado in hopes of finding some more clues about her disappearance.
Vandewiele has been missing since July 23, and the people closest to her immediately knew something wasn't right. Some friends received disturbing text messages days before she vanished. One text reads, "He's gonna kill me if I don't get away from him today."
They believe she was talking about Joe Mayer. Vandewiele moved to Denver with him but Mayer was arrested on outstanding warrants that are unrelated to this case, and she was nowhere to be found.
Mayer was arrested in the Denver area and extradited to Wisconsin to face charges. He has a lengthy criminal record and remains behind bars.
"My personal opinion is he may have done something to her," said Doug Schmidt, the missing woman's father.
Vandewiele's father and sister fought back the tears during an interview as they expressed how worried they are.
"Erin we just want you to know there are so many people helping us look for you," said Mandi Schmidt, her sister.
Family and friends are going to put up flyers in the Denver metro area. They believe she was in downtown Denver, Lakewood and Golden.
According to Schmidt, her sister's ID and social security card were found on an RTD bus in Denver. She also has a selfie of Vandewiele that was taken near Union Station. Her car, a green 1996 Honda Accord, is still missing too.
