DENVER – Dylan Redwine’s father was arrested in connection with son's death Saturday in the state of Washington, Denver7 has confirmed.
Bellingham police officers arrested Mark Allen Redwine, 55, overnight on a fugitive warrant with the underlying charges of second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
The warrant was issued out of Durango by La Plata County authorities.
Redwine was booked into the Whatcom County Jail at about 1 a.m. and is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond, according Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Pete Klein.
Though he's been indicted on the charges, Redwine won't be formally charged until he returns to Colorado and has his first advisement of the charges in La Plata County Court.
Case has been unfolding for nearly 5 years
Dylan, then 13-years-old, was on a court-ordered visit with his dad, near Durango, during Thanksgiving week in 2012, when he disappeared.
Some of the boy's remains were found in June 2013, about 10 miles from his father's home north of Vallecito Lake.
In August 2015, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner's Office announced that Dylan's manner of death had been updated to "homicide" and Mark Redwine was officially the person of interest.
No charges were filed against him until now.

In mid-July 2016, deputies found “items of interest” after a five-day search for clues related to the boy’s death, but what those items of interest are has never been released.
Parents counter sue each other in boy’s death
Last year, wrongful death lawsuits filed by both of Dylan’s parents against each other were thrown out.
Dylan's mother, Elaine Redwine, filed the first lawsuit in June 2015. In the lawsuit she blamed her ex-husband, Mark Redwine, for the wrongful death of Dylan.
Her lawsuit was dismissed in December 2015 because it was filed after the statute of limitations, according to the Durango Herald.
Days after Mark Redwine was named a person of interest, he filed a counter suit against his ex-wife.
In the lawsuit, he alleged that his ex-wife made inaccurate representations about domestic violence and campaigned to get law enforcement to consider him a suspect in Dylan's death.
The lawsuit claimed the domestic conditions “created the environment that was Dylan Redwine’s life and ultimately likely led to his death.”
That lawsuit was dismissed by a district judge in late October 2016.
