CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -- The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has issued a unique call for help in the murder of a Littleton woman whose body was dumped on the side of Interstate 25 last weekend.
Police are asking anyone with a dashboard camera or GoPro on their car, who might have been in the area at the time the body was dumped, to look at the video.
"It's a very, very busy section of I-25, and we're asking people to review their video and see if there is a car parked on the side of the road," said Chief Deputy Steve Johnson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
They are looking for video taken on southbound I-25 between Castle Rock and Monument around mile marker 166 between dusk last Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
When friends heard that 24-year-old Shelby Weatherly had been murdered, they had their suspicions about what may have happened.
"Instantly, I figured that she probably got mixed up with the wrong people," said Nathan Rognlie, a close high school friend who said they used drugs together then. "I don't want to say that she was naive, but she was very trusting, and I don't think she realized the implications of getting mixed up with serious people."
While police are tight-lipped about the case, Weatherly died two days after she had a court appearance for a felony drug charge.
"This poor girl didn't deserve this fate," said Johnson. "No matter what was going on in her life, she didn't deserve this."
He said they are confident someone saw something on I-25 that could lead to a break in the case.
"We're very certain the vehicle had to stop. She didn't sustain any injuries from, as an example, being thrown from the vehicle," said Johnson.
Meanwhile, friends said that Weatherly did deserve better, and her life is a lesson for them as well.
"You just don't think when it's all fun and games getting high, that that's the end result," said Rognlie. "It just makes me want to try harder and succeed for the people that don't."
