DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – The discovery of a body found on the shoulder of southbound I-25 near the Greenland Road exit in Douglas County Saturday morning is being investigated as a homicide by the sheriff's office.

Reports of the body on the ground came in just after 10 a.m. to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office dispatch.

The caller told officials the body had apparent cuts to the hands and gunshot wounds, but Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lauren LeKander told Denver7 they had not confirmed the nature and manner in which the body was found, adding the coroner would have to confirm the cause of death.

The right lane and shoulder of southbound I-25 were closed through traffic to allow authorities to comb the scene and conduct their investigation.

CDOT officials warned drivers to expect hour-long delays south of Castle Rock.

Denver7 was able to see some of the stalled traffic through one of the CDOT cameras. You can view the traffic mess below:

The highway was completely open just before 5 p.m., nearly seven hours after the body was first discovered.
