COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – A sexually violent predator convicted of sexually assaulting a child cut off his ankle monitor Monday and is now on the run from authorities.

The Colorado Department of Corrections put out a notice late Tuesday saying they were looking for Robert Jake Chavez, 38, after Chavez cut off his ankle monitor.

He is currently on parole and was last seen near Pioneer Park in Commerce City.

DOC says Chavez has convictions on sexual assault on a child charges and “has a history of possessing a weapon.”

He is described as a white/Hispanic man who is 5-foot-11 and 260 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees him is asked not to approach him and to call 911 immediately.
