GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Colorado investigators have cleared an officer who shot and wounded an armed man last New Year’s Eve in Fort Lupton.
Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said the shooting of Michael Nash, of Fort Lupton, was justified in response to Nash’s non-compliance with deputies.
The incident occurred about 2:40 a.m. on Dec. 31 when an officer tried to stop Nash for speeding. Police say Nash led the officer on a brief chase before stopping and the shooting occurred.
The Greeley Tribune reports that according to an affidavit in the case Nash pointed his gun at the deputy and fired a single round. The deputy then shot Nash multiple times, wounding him.
Rourke declined to release more information, citing unspecified pending litigation in the case.
