FORT COLLINS, Colo. – An incident response team is investigating after a report of a burglary in progress turned into an officer-involved shooting in Fort Collins Saturday morning.

Officers got a report of a burglary in progress in the area of Dunbar Avenue and Hastings Drive at around 8 a.m. The caller said he came out of his room and saw an unknown person stabbing his roommate.

Two officers arrived at the scene a short time later and when they approached the home, a suspect came out with a gun in hand, according to a Fort Collins Police Services official.

In the video, the police officer approaches the home and the suspect can be seen coming out, wearing what appears to be dark-colored shorts and dark-colored sweater. The suspect can be seen coming out with his right-hand raised near shoulder level.

The officer then fires his weapon several times.

“The suspect was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies,” according to the Fort Collins Police Services official. The suspect’s condition remains unknown at this time.

The officers were not injured. When police entered the home where the initial call was made they were unable to locate anyone, including the reported stabbing victim.

The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team was activated to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Sgt. Heffernan at (970) 416-1985.
