Arsonist sets 9 vehicles, gas pump ablaze in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Police in Colorado Springs are looking for an arsonist who set several vehicles and a gas pump on fire early Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported.

The first call came in around 1:40 a.m. in the 2900 block of Tremont Street. When officers arrived, they discovered two vehicles had been intentionally set on fire, and there were attempts on four additional vehicles in the same area.

A couple of hours later, police responded to another vehicle fire in the area of Cragmor Road and Mallow Road with a similar method of ignition found on the vehicles on Tremont Street. Police say the suspect(s) placed an unknown item in the gas tank of the vehicles in an attempt to ignite the gas.

Minutes later, the arsonist struck a convenience store in the 2100 block of Templeton Gap Road, where a gas pump had been lite on fire.

The extent of the damage caused by the fires wasn't immediately clear. Police are working with investigators with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. No suspect information is available.
