Denver Police arrest man in restaurant knife attack

DENVER -- An arrest has been made after a West Highlands restaurant patron was the victim of a seemingly random knife attack Tuesday evening.

Police did not release the identity of the suspect Wednesday night, citing "investigatory purposes." 

The victim, whose throat was cut in the attack, is a regular at the Mead St. Station Bar and Grill on West 32nd Avenue near Lowell Boulevard. He sustained serious injuries and continued to recover at the hospital.

The victim was sitting at the bar at the time of that attack. A bartender saw the suspect walk in and immediately attack the victim from behind. 

Police said they were looking for a 6-foot-3 tall black male who weighed approximately 200 to 250 pounds. He was wearing a green shirt and khaki shorts at the time of the attack.

Paul Burke, the owner of the restaurant, said the suspect has been seen in neighborhood bars and restaurants on several occasions prior to Tuesday’s attack.

"There was [sic] kids in the restaurant, and it was just a very terrible, random act of violence," said Burke. "Hopefully, they catch the guy as quickly as possible.”

Mead St. Station was closed Wednesday as restaurant staff gathered to discuss the attack and talk about grief counseling options. 

A sign posted at the restaurant states the business will reopen Thursday.
