BROOMFIELD, Colo. – A Phoenix man convicted a year ago of two counts of sexual conduct with a minor, who fled the country while out on bond, was captured Tuesday in a Denver suburb.

Steven Marusich, 28, is believed to have fled to Central America while he was out on a $250,000 bond during his sentencing in Arizona in November 2016.

U.S. Marshals got involved in the search for Marusich, and learned he had returned to the United States in September and was living in Colorado, marshals said.

Deputy U.S. marshals and officers with the Broomfield Police Department started surveilling Marusich near 136th Avenue and Lowell Tuesday morning. They spotted him driving in the area around 2 p.m. and arrested Marusich “following a brief attempt to evade authorities,” the marshals service said.

Marusich was jailed in Broomfield Wednesday while awaiting extradition to Arizona.
