Colorado Woman Who Drowned In Iowa Was 'Batman' ICU Nurse

A Colorado woman who drowned in West Okoboji Lake in northwest Iowa earlier this month has been identified as an ICU nurse who treated victims of the Aurora theater gunman and who met President Obama.The Dickinson County Sheriffs Office said officers responded to a report of a drowning a little after noon on Aug. 8. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Jennifer Anne Galagher, of Denver.Shed been swimming the night before and was discovered missing the next morning on the 3,847-acre lake. Shortly after contacting authorities, a family member found Gallagher under a nearby dock. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.Gallagher worked at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora."She worked the morning after the Batman massacre in a very busy unit of the hospital - so she saw everything really, some really bad injuries," her husband Greg told Ireland's Herald newspaper on Friday. Gallagher had moved from Ireland to the U.S. in the 1990's and graduated from nursing school here."Jenny was a beloved nurse," said University of Colorado Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Carolyn Sanders. "She was very well known for her ability to connect with people, show empathy and develop caring relationships with her patients."Gallagher and other hospital personnel met President Obama on July 22 when he visited the hospital and talked to the staff, some of the victims and their families.Gallagher is survived by her husband and 5-year-old son.
