5-hour apartment standoff ends peacefully when man surrenders to police in Colorado Springs

Nearby apartments were evacuated

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A more than five-hour standoff at a Colorado Springs apartment building ended peacefully Monday afternoon when a man surrendered to police.

The situation began as an early-morning domestic conflict at the Cheyenne Vista Apartments in the 400 block of Cresone Lane, KRDO-TV reported.

Witnesses reported hearing yelling coming from an apartment.

At about 7:30 a.m., the man, who was believed to be armed, barricaded himself inside the apartment with a woman and 5-year-old child, the station reported. Cheyenne Vista and other nearby apartment units were evacuated as a precaution.

Police negotiators talked by phone with the man and the woman over several hours. Around 1 p.m., the man came out of the apartment and surrendered to police. No one was injured.

Police said the man was wanted on several warrants but would not elaborate, KRDO reported.
