Funeral services for the officer killed in the line of duty at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood facility shooting on Friday have been announced by university staff.
The funeral for University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Officer Garrett Swasey will take place Friday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Parkway in Colorado Springs.
Gov. John Hickenlooper, Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, as well as UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak, UCCS Police Chief Brian McPike, Pastor Kurt Aichele and family members are planned speakers, according to UCCS spokesperson Tom Hutton.
A motorcade will follow the service and a reception is planned for 4 p.m. at Berger Hall on the UCCS campus.
The family has suggested donations to either the Officer Garrett Swasey Scholarship at UCCS or a fund designated to support the family.
Officer Swasey was killed along with two over civilians after a suspected shooter went into the clinic and began firing at people inside.
Swasey was honored prior to UCCS basketball games and during an on-campus student vigil.
Gov. Hickenlooper has ordered all public building flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of the shootings until further notice.
