COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs will not open this summer.
Nearly every building on the 60-year-old ranch was destroyed in the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs last June.
Ranch spokesman Aaron Winter told KRDO-TV the staff has decided the ranch isn't safe for the public yet because of the danger of falling trees and and the increased risk of flash flooding.
"We'll be back someday. Don't know when as if yet, " officials posted on the Flying W's Facebook last month.
The ranch is famous for its hearty chuck-wagon suppers and western-style entertainment.
On Facebook, workers said, "Mitigation and flood preparation are our passion now."
Winter said the Flying W may open for weddings and ATV tours in the next few weeks. The ranch is also taking volunteers who want to help with cleanup and flood control. If you're interested, please visit: http://www.flyingw.com/VolunteerSignupForm.aspx
