COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A gunman dropped his weapon after assaulting his mother and her friend, giving the friend a chance to hide the gun.

Sanza Thompson, 33, is accused of committing the assault around 6:06 p.m. at 2600 E. Uintah Street in Colorado Springs. Police said that the weapon slipped from his hand during the assault, allowing the family friend to hide it from him.

Thompson ran from the home and police searched for him until he was found and arrested at his home about five hours later.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the assault.
