COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Southern Colorado radio DJ and newsman Paul Richards died at his home west of Colorado Springs Sunday morning at age 55, according to his parent station, KRDO.

Richards’ real name was Paul Mundt. He had worked as a DJ and radio host since the 1980s at various stations in the Colorado Springs before he joined KRDO Newsradio nearly four years ago.

Denver7's news partners in Colorado Springs, KRDO, reports Richards had a passion for news but always loved music. He was involved in the local business community and made time for fundraisers, charities and other local events.

He leaves behind a wife and five children.

“All of us here at KRDO are saddened by Paul’s passing” said KRDO General Manager Tim Larson in a statement on their website. “He was always upbeat and a true professional. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children. He will be greatly missed.”

The El Paso County Coroner's Office said Monday morning there were no signs of trauma or foul play involved in his death, and that toxicology reports were still pending. The Colorado Springs Police Department says it does not have an open criminal case regarding Richards' death.
