Colorado Springs Police Officer injured by shoplifter at Walmart

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs Police officer working off-duty at Walmart got scratched up trying to stop two shoplifters over the weekend.

Investigators said Officer Jason Laurence was working at the Walmart on East Platte Avenue Saturday around 1 p.m. when he spotted two women hiding clothes while in the store.

As the women tried to run out of the store, the officer grabbed 22-year-old Ashley Henderson.

Police said Henderson scratched Laurence, causing minor cuts.

Henderson was arrested on charges of theft and assault on a peace officer.

A second woman, 21-year-old Rebecca Holt, was cited on theft charges and released, police said.

Officers said Laurence did not need medical attention.
