A Colorado Springs police officer has been arrested after two El Paso County deputies reported that he choked, kicked and punched a man during a traffic crash investigation.

The Gazette reports Sgt. Steven Biscaro was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of menacing and assault related to the December incident.

According to Biscaro's arrest affidavit, deputies had been interviewing 43-year-old Michael Ferguson after a crash when Ferguson "became unruly." Deputies say they had gotten him under control until Biscaro arrived and the situation escalated.

The report says Biscaro kicked Ferguson several times, "yanked" him from the police vehicle, and began choking him until one of the deputies intervened.

The affidavit says the assault continued when Biscaro pinned Ferguson down and punched him.

Biscaro's attorney denied investigators' request to interview his client.
