COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Two Colorado couples reached out to Denver7 after they say a wedding photographer didn't hold up his end of the deal.
"It’s just sad that someone would do this to people on their one special day of their life," said Sarah Koehler, a newlywed.
Sarah Koehler and her husband, Alexj, got married on June 19. They hired a company called 728 Films to do the videography. She talked to a man named Trae Smith on the phone but on the day of her wedding a woman showed up in his place.
"Trae won’t pay her for the video and I’m just confused at this point," said Koehler.
A contract states the video would be completed 14 days after the wedding. The couple has yet to see any video clips about a month later.
As Koehler began doing more research she found some negative reviews that told a similar story. She reached out to Smith again.
"So I emailed Trae saying, 'you know who is this lady, is she your employee?' And he just said, 'oh don’t worry about it, I’m figuring it out, like, I don’t want you to stress. It’s fine I’m working on it,'" said Koehler.
Another Colorado couple says they fought with Smith for a year to get their photos and video. Jed and Ashley Goodwin received mostly raw unedited photos and video after going back and forth with him.
"We paid a lot of money to have a perfect wedding day and this didn’t work out," said Jed Goodwin.
On top of that he said Smith was rude and called him a liar when he pushed back.
"He was saying that we were scamming him," said Goodwin.
A TV station in Fort Myers, Fla., reported on Smith back in February saying he did not keep his promise to newlyweds there. A couple interviewed for the story says they didn't receive any material despite waiting for months.
Denver7 has reached out to Smith but one of his phone numbers appears to be disconnected. Another business called Viral Media Group also appears to have ties to Smith.
