Colorado Springs fire officials said a 22-year-old man fell more than 100 feet to his death while climbing at the Garden of the Gods Friday.

Fire Lt. James Eddy said it took more than 90 minutes to retrieve the body. It wasn't clear what caused the fall.

According to park interpreter Brook Cruz, Fink was climbing in the Sleeping Giant area near Keyhole Cave -- an area marked with warning signs to climbers.

"It’s like a vertical drop into this cave, and you have to be very careful trying to get over the top," Cruz said. "Those rocks are very uneven and not the proper thing to be climbing around on."

The name of the victim, who was climbing illegally and without safety gear with three friends, was withheld.
