A Castle Rock mother accused of killing her 9-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter was charged Friday with six felonies.Kelli Murphy, 41, was charged with four counts related to first-degree murder -- two counts of murder after deliberation and two counts of murder where the victim was under 12 years old.She was also charged with two counts of child abuse, knowingly and recklessly causing death.Murphy shuffled into Douglas County Court on Friday, shackled and with bandages still covering her wrists. She didn't speak and her attorney waived her right to hear the charges against her read in open court.Friday was the same day Murphy's two children -- Liam and Madigan -- were to be buried. A memorial was held at Heritage Church in Castle Rock at 11 a.m. Friday.A similar memorial was held Thursday night in their Founders Village neighborhood.Hundreds of friends and neighbors gathered for a candlelight vigil for the two children.
Liam was known for his love of race cars and often helped his friends with their math homework."He was like the math genius in school, so all the kids would go to him," said neighbor CeCe Roulge.Madigan was known for her kindness and sense of humor."She was hilarious. She made people laugh. She had jokes all the time," Roulge said.An initial coroner's report released this week did not say how the children died. It could take six weeks for the results of toxicology tests to come in.There were no visible signs of trauma on the children, police said.The children's father, Eric Murphy, was at the vigil Thursday night and asked 7NEWS to respect his privacy.Kelli Murphy called 911 Monday morning to say that she had attempted suicide. When the dispatcher asked about the kids in the home, Murphy replied that they were "already in heaven," according to Castle Rock Police Chief Tony Lane.A gag order has been issued in the case so no other court documents have been released.
