Arapahoe High Student Run Over By School Bus

Unidentified Student In Serious Condition

A 16-year-old Arapahoe High School student was seriously injured Wednesday morning when he was run over by a Littleton Public School bus.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the unidentified student was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk in the 7800 block of South University Boulevard at about 7:15 a.m. when a bus driven by Monica Wetzel, 48, turned onto southbound University Boulevard from East Long Avenue.

Investigators said the bicyclist struck the bus and then was then run over by the right rear tires of the bus.

Wetzel stopped the bus a short distance away after realizing that she might have struck something. That's when she saw the victim lying in the roadway.

The student was rushed to Littleton Porter Hospital and was listed in serious condition with a broken pelvis, broken femur, broken nose, and severe face lacerations.

The investigation into the accident was continuing.
