Accused Urine Drinker Set For New Trial

Joseph Cardillo To Be Tried In Boulder In May

A Niwot man accused of drinking the urine of an 8-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her will go on trial in May.

Joseph S. Cardillo, 50, received a mistrial last October when a jury hearing his case couldn't reach a verdict. He has remained in custody since then.

Cardillo was accused of spending time in the nude with the girl and using a sex toy on her. He also is accused of drinking her urine from his cupped hands as she urinated.

During his first trial, Cardillo testified that he received "urine therapy" training in India and that he attending nudist schools. He said he was never aroused or gratified by anything he did with the girl.

Cardillo and the girl's mother met at a Hare Krishna gathering in Boulder.

He fled Colorado before his trail last year and was arrested in Arizona.

Cardillo could face life in prison if convicted of sexual assault on a child by person in a position of trust.
