DENVER -- In just four days the T-REX project will open all closed ramps and lanes. It's a milestone many people living near the Interstate 25 Narrows have been waiting on for five years.Three ramps will re-open between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. next Tuesday. The ramps include the Downing Street, Washington Street and Emerson Street off ramp from northbound I-25, the Washington Street and Emerson Street off ramp from southbound I-25 and the Lincoln Avenue and Broadway Street on ramp to northbound I-25.
Nick Ault, a business owner, calls the opening too good to be true.Ault is opening a bakery cafe near Emerson Street just as T-REX is wrapping up."The timing of being able to open up in this location is a dream come true," Ault said, "If I could do a cartwheel right now without falling, I would do it."Ault isn't the only person who can't wait for Tuesday."We're excited, and I think everybody is excited at this point," Joy Wasendor, a T-REX spokeswoman said. The progress on T-REX has actually gone faster than originally expected."When CDOT and RTD were originally planning this project they thought wouldn't be done until the summer of 2008," Wasendor said. The T-REX project will be officially finished when the light rail opens on Nov. 17.
