SOUTHAMPTON, England -- A 7-year-old girl in England has quite a tale to tell after a lightning bolt struck her house, knocking a hole in the ceiling of her bedroom and burning her pajamas, according to reports in British newspapers Thursday.Emily Holland of Southampton was asleep when the bolt struck around midnight on Wednesday, missing her head but leaving a burn mark on her bed. The bolt slightly scorched her arm and singed her pajamas, sending debris from the ceiling falling on the startled youngster.Holland's 9-year-old brother slept through the destruction. His bedroom adjoins his sister's.
The children's father was hit by a six-foot piece of ceiling.Holland was not seriously injured but the bolt lifted the roof of the $500,000 house up, knocked a hole in the wall and blew up a television."The house looks like a bomb has hit it, but our family is the most important thing," said Melanie Holland, Emily's mother. The family is staying with friends until their home is repaired.
