Trial Of Man Charged In E-470 Road-Rage Deaths Postponed

POSTED: 6:07 am MDT July 24, 2006

The trial of a Parker man who is facing first-degree murder in an alleged road-rage crash near Denver was set to begin Monday but was postponed.

Jason Benjamin Reynolds is accused of causing a three-vehicle pileup last November on the E-470 toll road in Arapahoe County.

Kelvin Norman, 50, of Highlands Ranch and Greg Boss, 35, of Lone Tree were killed in the Nov. 8 crash.

Investigators said Reynolds was driving aggressively as he passed a Toyota 4-Runner, then cut off the driver and slammed on his brakes. That forced Norman to swerve across the median into oncoming traffic and land on a Ford Explorer, killing both drivers.

Reynolds claims he was upshifting when his boot jammed the brake pedal.

In the arrest affidavit it said, "Reynolds seemed irritated and his attitude was indifferent to the deceased drivers of the other vehicles. He did not seem upset even though we were only 100 feet from away the other vehicles and the deceased bodies."

Officers also said that they saw Reynolds cut off another driver on Monday, Dec. 12, when they went to arrest him and they smelled marijuana on his breath.

Reynolds has 13 traffic offenses in the last 10 years, officers said.

And on Sept. 23, the Colorado State Patrol sent him a road rage warning letter after several people reported him. Reynolds was also due in court on Dec. 14 to be sentenced for reckless driving and posession of a dangerous weapon. In that case, Parker police officers said he rammed the the rear of a Honda with his truck three times -- but no one in that incident died

The 33-year-old could face life in prison if convicted.
