Mayor Asked To Resign Following Strip Club Controversy

Dale Sparks Hasn't Made Decision On Future With Federal Heights

POSTED: 4:28 am MDT July 20, 2006

Federal Heights mayor Dale Sparks said he hasn't decided whether to resign after the City Council voted to ask him to step down over his work at a strip club.

Sparks worked as a doorman at the club and was there when police raided it as a result of allegations of prostitution.

Adams County Chief Deputy District Attorney Tom Quammen said that no charges will be filed in the incident, but a special prosecutor hired by the city has not ruled out any charges of violating the city's municipal code.

Sparks has denied wrongdoing. He worked three nights a week at the Bare Essence Gentleman's Club for about a year, and quit after police raided the club in April.

The council voted 4-to-2 on Tuesday to ask Sparks to resign and elected a pro tem mayor to replace him should he do so.
