ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- A man accused of killing a Kmart worker and wounding a customer in Englewood has a history mental illness.Anthony Law, 39, attacked a fellow employee at a grocery store 11 years ago and was hospitalized for schizophrenia when he was 18.Police say 43-year-old Kathy DeBell was waiting for a ride home Sunday night when Law walked up to the building with a gun and shot her. He also shot 30-year-old Claudia Nunez as she was shopping with her young son.
Law is expected to be charged Friday with first-degree murder.Law was arrested across the street from the store at an apartment complex where he'd lived for several years."I've known Anthony, like I've said, just as a neighbor, for several years. And he's just always kept to himself. Very few visitors," said Connie Sisneros, the suspect's neighbor."No matter what happens to him or what his motives were or what's going on, nothing's going to bring Kathy back, so we don't think about it that much. We know the poor man must have been a very troubled person," said Robert Thompson, DeBell's stepfather.DeBell used to work up in Boulder but that was a quite a drive from Englewood, so she started the job at the K-Mart to be a little closer to home, her family said. She had worked there one week when she was killed.Nunez remains in critical condition.
