Police Warn Residents About Sex Assault Suspect
Reward Flyers Distributed Around Fort Collins
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- stepping up their efforts to warn residents about a series of sexual assaults as students arrive for classes at CSU.
Mebers of the Fort Collins Police Explorer Post (pictured, left) are distributing fliers to businesses with the dates of the assaults and the description of a suspect. The fliers also offer a reward of up to about $10,000 for information.
Police hope the fliers will reach community members who might
not have heard about the assaults, said Fort Collins police
spokeswoman Rita Davis. Although newspapers and television stations
have reported about the attacks, Davis said there still are people
who are uninformed.
"A lot of people don't pay attention to those sources," she
said. "It is important this time because we had five assaults and
we want to stop this as soon as we can."
Colorado State University students arriving in town for the
start of the fall semester Aug. 20 also might not be aware of the
attacks.
Since May 10, five women have reported that a man entered their
apartments through unlocked doors or windows, blindfolded them and
forced them to perform a sexual act.
A police task force has been working exclusively on the attacks.
Officers have increased patrols and also have worked with a former
FBI agent to develop a profile of the suspect.
A total of 1,000 fliers and 500 informational packets were being
printed for distribution, said Fort Collins police Detective
Michelle Leschinsky.
