Possible Serial Sex Assault Suspect Strikes Again In Fort Collins
Fort Collins Police Establish A Task Force To Catch Suspect
FORT COLLINS, Colo -- A person believed to be associated with a string of sexual assaults in Fort Collins has struck again, leaving Fort Collins Police madly searching for the alleged suspect.
The most recent sexual assault occurred early Sunday morning when a 20-year-old Fort Collins woman was attacked in her apartment in the 1200 block of University Avenue.
Fort Collins police are investigating four other similar sexual assaults that have occurred in the past three months, according to police.
"There is no solid, hard evidence that any of these attacks are related," Fort Collins Police spokesperson Rita Davis told 7News. "But we do believe there is a strong possibility all these recent assaults are related. There are lots of similarities."
As of result of the most recent attack, Fort Collins Police have established a five-person task force that is exclusively investigating the string of attacks. Patrol units also have increased their presence in unidentified apartment complexes in the area.
According to the victim of the most recent attack, the male intruder entered her second story apartment through an unlocked sliding glass door while she was sleeping. It happened around 3am. The suspect reportedly left through the front door. The victim, who lives alone, was blindfolded and no weapon was used in the attack, according to police.
The other recent sexual assaults have occurred as follows:
1) May 10 in the 2700 block of Raintree Drive.
2) June 13 in the 2600 block of Raintree Drive.
3) June 24 in the 2000 block of Battlecreek Drive.
4) July 26 in the 1200 block of West Prospect.
5) August 5 in the 1200 block of University.
According to police, all five sexual assaults have occurred in the early morning hours. Furthermore, according to police, all female victims were home alone at the time of attack; all the victims are in their twenties; all but the most recent attack have occurred in garden-level apartments; in all attacks the suspect gains entry through an unlocked window or door; in all cases the victim is blindfolded; in all cases in victim is forced to perform sexual act on suspect.
The victim in the most recent assault describes her attacker as a white male with a dark complexion in his late 20's or early 30's, about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11 tall. He is slightly overweight, with a full head of short to medium length dark brown hair.
The suspect had a strong odor of cigarettes, stale body and breath odor, and callused hands with dirty fingernails. He was wearing 2-ply mesh-type knee length basketball sport shorts with elastic drawstring and an unknown type of shirt.
