Residents: Don't Build Juvenile Sex Offender Home Here
Offender Home Location To Be Decided Tuesday
GOLDEN, Colo. -- Residents in north Golden said Monday that they don't want a Jefferson County home for young sex offenders to be built near their neighborhoods.
The group home complex will initially hold 48 juveniles and could be built north of Golden within a mile of five different subdivisions. Jefferson County commissioners are set to decide on the home's location in a public hearing Tuesday night.
Homeowners expressed major concerns.
"I have a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old. We have way too many young kids that live close to this area," resident Judy Beuernschmidt said.
According to project consultant Dr. Arthur Brown, the keys to keeping everyone as safe as possible are high staffing ratios at the group home, a lot of ongoing staff training, the use of lease restrictive measures and not mixing offenders with lower cognitive ability with kids with higher cognitive ability.
