Headless Corpse Found Near Pond
ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- A headless corpse was found Friday afternoon, several blocks away from where a human head was seen floating in a drainage pond last Saturday.
Authorities first spotted a foot sticking out of the ground near 56th and Pecos Avenue. A special team was sent in shortly thereafter to dig out the rest of body.
The head of an unidentified Hispanic man was discovered last weekend just eight blocks away -- at 64th and Pecos. Two fishermen spotted the head floating in a pond in Adams County.
Although authorities could not confirm that the body and the head came from the same person, they are piecing together clues that could help resolve the mystery of the man's identity and his cause of death.
Authorities have been investigating the case as a homicide.
The victim had dark hair, a goatee and a missing lower right molar.
Adams County authorities turned to an expert at Colorado State University to help identify the head. Diane France, of CSU's Human Identification Laboratory, is expected to help investigators learn more about the victim.
France has consulted on cases from around the world. In 1996, she determined that a skull found in a back yard in Greenwood Village was from a person who died 150 to 200 years ago.
