Human Head Goes To CSU For Reconstruction

World Renowned Expert Will Try To Learn More About The Victim

Adams County authorities have turned to an expert at Colorado State University to help identify a human head found in a pond on Saturday.

Fishermen found the head but the rest of the body has not been located.

Investigators said that the head is that of a Hispanic man with dark hair, a goatee and a missing lower right molar.

Sheriff's Sergeant Craig Coleman said that Diane France, of CSU's Human Identification Laboratory, is expected to help investigators learn more about the victim and the cause of death.

France has consulted on cases from around the world. In 1996 she determined that a skull found in a back yard in Greenwood Village was from a person who died 150 to 200 years ago.

Investigators spent Wednesday looking for the corpse that goes with the head. They searched the Adams County pond where the head was found earlier.

The pond, at 64th and Pecos, was searched by a dog trained to smell human remains, called a "cadaver dog."

Nothing was found in the pond and the source of the head remains a mystery.
