Head Found In Pond Was Hispanic Male
No Sign Of Body As Authorities Work To Identify Dead Man
BRIGHTON, Colo. -- A human head found in an Adams County pond over the weekend belonged to a Hispanic male, according to the results of an autopsy conducted Monday.
Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Craig Coleman said that the dead man has not been identified and the rest of the body has not been found.
Authorities said that they were hoping someone might come forward to identify the victim.
"He had brown hair and a goatee and he's missing the third molar on the lower right side," Coleman said.
Anglers found the head floating in the pond near Pecos Street early Saturday. Storm water drains into the pond from miles away. Because it was decomposing, investigators couldn't determine the race or sex until the autopsy.
Members of the Metro Dive Rescue Team riding all-terrain vehicles searched the area during the weekend looking for other body parts and any clues.
Coleman said that railroad tracks lie in the area and the head could have been severed in a train accident. But nothing from the coroner's report indicates how the head was severed, and the matter is still being treated as a homicide, he said.
