Owens Calls Another Special Session
Lawmakers To Tackle Redistricting, Growth
DENVER -- Gov. Bill Owens has ordered a special session on Sept. 19 for lawmakers to deal with redistricting and the thorny issues of growth.
At a news conference Thursday, Owens said that he believes the Republicans and Democrats can reach a consensus on growth.
The lawmakers also will redraw congressional districts to add a seventh that Colorado received because of a 30 percent growth in population during the 1990s.
Although growth was identified as a top priority among residents, lawmakers failed to enact new laws to help control growth during the last regular session and a special session in
May.
