Fort Collins Sex Assaults Investigated
Three Victims Lived In Garden-Level Apartments
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Authorities are investigating a series of similar sexual assaults on victims who live in garden-level apartments in Fort Collins.
In separate incidents during May and June, three women were forced to perform a sex act on an intruder. All three women were at home alone during the early morning hours when the attacks occurred.
In each assault, the intruder entered the victim's apartment through an unlocked window and left through the front door, according to authorities.
Two victims reported that the suspect also took cash from them before leaving.
"One of the things that did happen is that all three victims were blindfolded by the suspect, and that also can contribute to some of the variations in the physical descriptions of the suspects," Rita Davis, of the Fort Collins police, said.
A 26-year-old woman told authorities that she was attacked early Sunday morning in her apartment in the 2000 block of Battlecreek Drive. She described the attacker as a man in his 20s, with a dark complexion and a medium build.
After Sunday's attack, the apartment complex management went door to door to tell residents what happened. Regardless, some neighbors said that they found out about the attack from news reports.
"I guess you don't expect to hear that here. I felt kind of safe here. I also live on the ground floor, and now I'm a prisoner in my own home. I can't open the windows," neighbor Lorraine Richardelli said.
"I'm going to learn how to use a gun," she said.
On June 13, police investigated a sexual assault reported by a 20-year-old woman who said that she was attacked in her apartment in the 2600 block of Raintree Drive. The victim said that the intruder was a man in his late teens or early 20s.
Another similar assault was reported on May 10, by a woman living in the 2700 block of Raintree Drive. The suspect in that case was described as a white male, 6 feet 2 inches tall with dark brown hair and a muscular build with a strong odor of cigarettes.
The suspect may have watched his victims for a time before striking, 7NEWS reported.
"All the women had roommates, however it was interesting that none of the roommates were home at the time (of the attacks), so apparently the individual checked it out before he went in," Davis said.
Police are going back to the neighborhoods where the assaults occurred and talking to residents to try to find someone who might have seen something out of the ordinary.
Because the victims were blindfolded and their descriptions of the suspects are not very complete, these could be difficult cases to solve, 7NEWS reported.
Anyone with information on any of the sexual assaults is asked to call Fort Collins Detective Craig Dodd at (970) 221-6561.
