Mom Of Boy Who Lost Arm In Pit Bull Attack Pleads Guilty

Muniz To Be Sentenced For Child Abuse, Cruelty To Animals

The mother of a 10-year-old boy who lost his arm in a pit bull attack pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony child abuse count and a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals.

Renee Muniz, 37, made her plea in exchange for prosecutors dropping two other charges -- including a misdemeanor count of owning a dangerous dog.

Gregg Jones had just arrived home from school Nov. 2 when three family dogs attacked him in his back yard. Neighbors scared them off with bats and sticks, but not before the boy suffered critical injuries.

Muniz could face two to six years behind bars for the child abuse charge. However, if the judge approves the plea deal, Muniz will not serve any jail time.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 2.
