Police: Dad Tried To Sell Pot To Free Sons Jailed For Selling Pot

Oscar Garcia Fled To Texas But Came Back For His Sons, Police Say

UPDATED: 4:23 pm MST March 21, 2006

A Denver father is in jail, accused of trying to sell drugs to raise bond money for his two sons, who were jailed for allegedly selling drugs.

The two juveniles were arrested earlier this month during a drug bust in the 2000 block of West 11th Avenue. The same undercover officer who arrested the teens had also arrested their father, Oscar Garcia, two years ago on narcotics charges.

Garcia, 36, had fled to Texas, but when he learned that his boys were in jail, he returned to Denver with intent to sell marijuana -- with the profit used to bond out his sons, police said.

Investigators set up a surveillance on Garcia and he was arrested on four outstanding warrants, including on charges of possessing drugs and trafficking.

Officers searched the home where Garcia was staying temporarily and found 50 pounds of marijuana in his luggage.

Garcia is now being held in the Denver City Jail.

His sons face charges of possession with intent to distribute, possession of burglary tools, and being juveniles in possession of a firearm.
