PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- A former fugitive from Colorado was expected to appear in a California courtroom Wednesday, after leading law enforcement officers on a four-hour chase and standoff that ended Tuesday night near Mecca, Calif. That is near Palm Springs. A U.S. Marshal's office spokesman in Los Angeles said that Scott Lee Kimball, 39, of Lafayette, Colo., was wanted for violating his parole on a securities fraud conviction.He was also wanted for questioning in the disappearance of his ex-wife's daughter, and the attempted murder of his 10-year-old son in Adams County.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said that Kimball has a criminal history dating back to 1987.The Larimer County Sheriff's Department arrested him in August 1987 on charges of crimes against a person. His arrest occurred in Fort Collins, Colo.In October 1988, Kimball was arrested in Boulder County on second-degree burglary charges.He wasn't arrested again until June 2003, when the Denver Police Department took him into custody as a fugitive of another jurisdiction: Washington, D.C.The Colorado bureau arrested Kimball on Sept. 22, 2004 for gambling and other unlawful acts.Barbara Kimball of Lafayette said that she hasn't seen her son since January, when he fled his home after allegedly stealing and cashing thousands of dollars worth of checks from a Lafayette optometrist."He might be a thief. He might be a crook. But he's not a violent man," she told the newspaper.
