Most people in Strasburg know it as just "the food bank."

But its formal title says it all.

"It's the C.A.R.E.S. food bank, Christian Aide Resources and Emergency Services," volunteer Evelyn Schroth explains.

The Strasburg Community Church started the food bank in 2000.

It is open every Friday for those in need in and around Strasburg.

"Everybody in the community... from Watkins to Agate," said Schroth.

Schroth is the food bank director who seems to be here all the time.

"I am here on Monday morning.  I'm here on Wednesday morning.  I'm here on Thursday, on Friday and back on Saturday taking inventory," said Schroth.

Schroth has given her time at the food bank every week for the last eight years.

"Time flies when you're having fun," laughed Schroth.

"She is the power behind the whole thing," said fellow volunteer Emily Bennet.

"We can't do it without her," added volunteer Micki Humbert.

Schroth is proud of the fact the food bank turns away no one and lets people pick the foods they like.

Schroth said: "Every once in a while we have tears. The little kids get excited: 'I want that soup! I want that soup!'"

Schroth's passion is to make sure no one in her hometown of 84 years goes hungry.

"This is my life. I feel like I'm giving back to the lord who has been extremely good to me," said Schroth.
