NORTHGLENN, Colo. -- After a career as an electrical engineer, 7Everyday Hero Steve Austin shifted gears to volunteering.
"It's fun," Austin said with a big smile.
Austin volunteers for several Northglenn area agencies. One of his favorite ways to give back is at the City of Northglenn Bicycle Shop. Austin and six other volunteers turn out a lot of bikes.
"Oh yeah, probably 500 to 600 a year," Austin said.
Austin is 92 years young.
"I was born in 1925," he said.
He is humble and soft spoken, but a powerful example of giving back.
"He has volunteered in elementary schools to tutor in math. He gives back to seniors through tax preparation. He works as a City of Northglenn flower bed partner, a trail partner, a park partner, and with the bike program," said Jenni Murphy, Community Outreach Coordinator for the city.
Austin helps repair donated bicycles so the bikes can be given to kids and the young at heart throughout the northern metro.
"They pick out the bike they want and that's their bike," Austin said.
Austin has done this for about 15 years and said he has no plans to retire.
