For this week's 7Everyday Hero, we go behind the scenes of a Boulder business. The back room provides a space for volunteers to help thousands of Boulder children.

The popular store is in the shadow of the beautiful Boulder Flatirons, in the Table Mesa Shopping Center.

"In the back is a classroom space at Shuttles, Spindles and Skeins," said employee Roxana Bartlett.

The store full of supplies for knitting, spinning, and weaving hosts a group called Community Knitting. Roxana Bartlett leads the group.

"We meet once a month and we knit for children in need," said Bartlett.

Community Knitting has around 40 volunteer knitters.

"We do scarves, hats, teddy bears, mittens.  Yes, mittens are a great favorite with the group," said Bartlett.

Community Knitting has been around for 23 years, turning out thousands of hand-made items for children in Boulder County.

"It is very hard to keep remembering that there are people in Boulder County living at or below the poverty level," said Bartlett.

Shuttles, Spindles and Skeins provides the workspace and all the yarn. Roxana provides the leadership and know how.

"She (Bartlett) is an international quilt artist, which she probably didn't mention to you.  Also, the author of a knitting book: Slip Stitch Knitting.  She has so many different qualities.  But I think the best part is she is basically a good person.  She brings out the best in everybody," said store co-owner Maggie Casey.

Bartlett spends a lot of time guiding the group to make a difference in Boulder, but she loves helping others.

"Well, it just makes you feel really, really good," admitted Bartlett.
