A man who police said rear ended a motorcycle and then drove away with the motorcycle embedded in his truck grill has surrendered.
Abel Acosta, 25, is suspected of causing the accident on U.S. Highway 50 near Penrose, according to investigators. Steve Luther, 38, was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene of head and internal injuries early Saturday.
The State Patrol said that Acosta hit the motorcycle then drove 14
miles (see map) with the bike embedded in his pickup truck's grill before abandoning the truck near Pueblo West, Colo.
The State Patrol said that Acosta turned himself into Pueblo police on Sunday.
Acosta was being held Monday on suspicion of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, failing to notify authorities of a crash and leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality, according to Trooper Richard Breece of the Colorado State Patrol.
Acosta?s license was suspended in 1998 for lack of insurance, and he had an arrest warrant for failing to appear for a traffic charge, Breece said.
Troopers said that the truck was going about 90 mph and the motorcycle was going about 60 when they collided.
