May 4, 2001: Telemarketing
This is a Denver's 7 Editorial from Cindy Velasquez, Vice President & General Manager KMGH-TV. Denver's 7 Editorials tackle issues important to Colorado's working families.
A Bill that would have given Coloradans a way to avoid Telemarkers was passed by the state Senate and sent on to the House.
And though house rules require the speaker to "assign a bill to a committee" within 3 days... House speaker Doug Dean didn't do that. He took more than eight days to assign the telemarketing bill.
When he finally did, supporters of the bill learned that most of the committee members had already decided to kill it... After extensive lobbying by Dean, himself.
Should it surprise anyone that Doug Dean used to work for a telemarketing company?
Speaker Dean has the right to his opinion, but it appears he abused his power as speaker... By providing more time for his own lobbying
Denver's 7 calls on the House to censure it's leader for his self-serving violation of the rules.
After all, Mr. Dean, rules are not made to be broken... Just because it suits your agenda.
