Evergreen Student Accused Of Threats, Posing With Guns

Posting On MySpace.com Is Latest Controversy Surrounding Web Site

An Evergreen High School student is under investigation after he allegedly posted photos of himself with weapons on MySpace.com.

In one of the photos, the student is surrounded by rifles and is holding two handguns with a caption that said, "Angel o' death on wings o' lead."

The unidentified student was suspended from school and may face an expulsion hearing in addition to criminal charges.

Authorities received an anonymous tip about the postings through Safe 2 Tell, a youth crime prevention program, earlier this month. He was arrested on Feb. 10, as a result of the tip.

A search of the teen's home revealed several handguns, rifles and knives.

According to the Canyon Courier newspaper, one of the written entries from the student on the Web site said: "People suck and deserve to die." Another said that music "makes the difference between a good day and me holding some stupid person at gunpoint in the frozen foods section with a gun to their head while its being pressed against a bag of peas."

Friends of the boy said he was joking and accused authorities of overreacting.

MySpace removed the student's entries because they were deemed to be inappropriate. The Web site is popular for students to connect and comment on various subjects, including education.

A Littleton High School student was suspended by the school district earlier this month for posting mocking comments about his school but he was allowed back in class after the American Civil Liberties Union threatened a lawsuit.
