HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- Douglas County sheriff's deputies are looking for two suspects in connection with several cases of mail theft.A Highlands Ranch woman reported that she saw men using a crowbar to break into mail lock boxes in the 300 block of Burgundy Street at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday."I heard loud car noises out here so and I saw one guy get out and it looked like he had a crowbar in his hand," said Rebecca Hanks. "I'm looking at them wondering, "What on earth are they doing?'"
A short time later, deputies received another call of suspects breaking into mailboxes near the first location.Another Highlands Ranch resident said that her mailbox has been hit multiple times."This is the fourth time," said Stacie Root. "We were gone for three days. We don't know what was in the mail (that was stolen)."The suspects are believed to be under the age of 18. Deputies found the stolen car they were believed driving. It was left in Castle Rock, packed with stolen mail. Officers said they found credit cards, illegal drugs and a rifle in the car.If you have information about the crimes, you are asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office tip line at (303) 660-7579.To protect yourself from mail and identity theft, mail your bills at the post office instead of putting them in your mailbox with the red flag raised. And never leave incoming letters and bills in your mailbox overnight.
