Looking for a way to reduce the signs of aging without surgery, Botox or chemical peels? Now, there is a new option that is gaining popularity in Colorado -- acupuncture.

Acupuncture is often thought of as a way to help with pain -- holistic healing that can help balance the body and mind.

But now it's the tool of choice for a growing number of people who want to reduce the signs of aging.

"I noticed this part of my face was drooping a little and I thought it would help," said acupuncture patient Carol Jean Dinges.

Dinges said a bunch of tiny needles beats one big one filled with unnatural substances.

"It's a natural facelift," said Dinges.

"It can help to lift and tone sagging skin, reduce fine lines, and reduce puffiness around the eyes and overall, restore a very vibrant appearance," said Diana Horowitz, with A New Spirit Spa.

Horowitz, a licensed acupuncturist, said acupuncture is a great alternative for people who may be afraid of more invasive procedures. So forget the knife, forget the pain.

"The needles are very small and sometimes, I don't feel it at all. Sometimes, it might pinch a little bit," said Dinges.

And forget the recovery time.

"You can go straight from a cosmetic acupuncture appointment to work," said Horowitz.

Cosmetic acupuncture isn't just for the face, it can help other areas.

"It's also available to work with breast enhancement and tummy tucks, which help to firm up the skin on the abdomen, which is excellent for postpartum women," said Horowitz.

Horowitz said acupuncture has been proven to help build collagen and elastin in the tissue, which helps firm the skin.

She recommends getting 10 treatments over a five-week period to maximize results. That costs about $1,000. After that, it's recommended to get four follow-up treatments per year.

"The effects last a long time, typically between 3 and 5 years," said Horowitz.

As for Dinges, she said she's noticed a big difference in the way she looks.

"Especially from profile, I could see a big difference," she said.

Cosmetic acupuncture is not for everyone. You shouldn't have it if you are on blood thinners, are in poor health or are pregnant.
