On 04/20/99 at approximately 1120 hours, witnesses in the Columbine High School library began to hear what was described as popping noises coming from the northwest outside area of the school. A short time later, witnesses described hearing what they now believed were gunshots and explosions inside the school. Some of the witnesses described hearing those sounds emanating from the commons area, in addition to directly outside the library. During that time frame, both Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are seen in the hall directly outside the library. Eric Harris is subsequently seen in the hall outside the library throwing a lit device (resembling "dynamite") in a southerly direction. Moments later there is an explosion in the hall directly outside the library.

At approximately 1132 hours, Eric Harris enters the library and he is seen firing two shotgun rounds in a westerly direction with a pump-action shotgun (pellets). Flying wood splinters injure Evan Todd, who is hiding behind a copier stand.

Both Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are then described as entering the library and moving in a westerly direction. Dylan Klebold is subsequently seen shooting a double-barrel shotgun (pellets) towards the north computer table as he moves west past the main counter of the library. (The investigation disclosed that Kyle Velasquez was shot twice with shotgun pellets while seated at the north computer table.)

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are next seen setting down backpacks on the southeast corner of the south computer table. Both suspects are then seen walking west between the north and south computer tables.

Witnesses reported that Dylan Klebold stopped at the west end of the computer tables, while Eric Harris continued around and then began walking south. After arriving on the south side of the computer tables, Eric Harris got down on his left knee and began shooting out the west library windows. According to witnesses, Dylan Klebold subsequently positioned himself east of Eric Harris and ducked down. Witnesses reported that Klebold subsequently fired a weapon in the direction of the west windows.

Dylan Klebold is next seen dropping his black trench coat just to the north side of table #18. During that same time frame, Eric Harris is seen shooting Steven Curnow with a pump-action shotgun (slug). Eric Harris is then seen shooting Kacey Reugsegger with the same pump-action shotgun (slug).

According to witnesses, Eric Harris then walked to the south side of table #19, where he slaps the table top twice with his left hand and states, "Peek-a-boo." Eric Harris then points the pump-action shotgun under table #19 (held in his right hand) and shoots Cassie Bernall (pellets). After shooting Cassie Bernall, Eric Harris turned to Bree Pasquale and asked her if she wanted to die. Bree Pasquale begged for her life, during which time she observed that blood began to flow from Eric Harris' nose.

Dylan Klebold is next described firing a shotgun in a southerly direction at table #15, hitting Daniel Steepleton and Makai Hall with pellet rounds. As Patrick Ireland attempts to administer first aid to Hall, he is shot with a second shotgun round (pellets).

Witnesses next described Isaiah Shoels as he was scooting backwards to the east while under table #16. Dylan Klebold subsequently moves to the east side of table #16 and is seen grabbing Isaiah Shoels in an effort to pull him from underneath the table. During the same time frame, Eric Harris moves towards table #16 (from the west) and fires the pump-action shotgun (slug), shooting Shoels. Klebold is then observed firing a double-barrel shotgun under table #16 from the east side, shooting Kechter with a slug round.

While standing to the west side of table #16, Eric Harris is seen throwing a device referred to as a "cricket" in a southerly direction. The device rolled under table #15, making contact with Daniel Steepleton's body. The device is retrieved by Makai Hall and thrown to the south, where it explodes. Around that same time frame, witnesses describe seeing smoke rising from the abdominal area of Matthew Kechter, who was located under table #16. (Note: this is the area where Harris was standing when he threw the "cricket," and there is a clear match-strike mark on top of table #16.)

Witnesses next describe Eric Harris as he moves south in the library to the west bookshelves, where he jumps up on the shelves and begins shaking them back and forth (while) swearing. Eric Harris then walks between the bookshelves (moving in an easterly direction), where witnesses lose sight of him. Witnesses did report hearing books being shot in the area near the west set of bookshelves shortly after Eric Harris walked into that area.

At the same time, witnesses explained seeing Dylan Klebold walking on the north side of the library (south of the main counter) moving in an easterly direction. Dylan Klebold continues moving east, stopping near the entrance to the library (north of the display case). Dylan Klebold then fires a Tech 9 into the display case. Witnesses reported that Dylan Klebold then moved back around the display case and fired one double-barrel shotgun round (pellets) under table #1, hitting Mark Kintgen. Dylan Klebold then stepped east towards table #2, and fired one double-barrel shotgun round (pellets) under that same table, hitting both Valeen Schnurr and Lisa Kreutz. Klebold then continued walking south along the west side of table #2, firing multiple rounds (rapid fashion) with the Tech 9 under that same table, hitting Townsend.
